Trailer Reveal: Till Death by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Monday, January 30, 2017
After I had read her Lux series, I knew I had to sign up for this as soon as I got the news on social media about it.

And after some waiting, I finally got the approval and so I am very happy that I can present you today the trailer reveal of Jennifer L. Armentrout´s new book Till Death.

It is such a beautiful trailer with wonderful soft music and two figures who are really worth looking at.

Oh, and by the way, this post doesn´t contain any affiliated links. Sorry folks, but I  have to say that in case some of you are wondering.

For all those, who might not know the author or her books, you can read at the end of this post a few words about her. Don´t worry it is not the length of a novel, but I thought a few words wouldn´t hurt.

But before we start the show, I have a little description for you. A little sneak peak if you like - hope it makes you a little curious ...

Gone With The Books Best Authors Of 2016

Sunday, January 29, 2017
It took me some time to get this list together and to narrow her down to the names listed below. And it wasn´t easy for me to keep my list at the set goal of only ten, but that was necessary since otherwise, my list would´ve been a mile long.

At least!

In the end, I wrote them down as they came into my mind. The list shows them in randomly order since I cannot really decide which one of them I like more than the other.

Gone With The Books Best Books Of 2016

Saturday, January 28, 2017
I finally found the time and energy to put my best books of the past year together. I narrowed them down to ten titles. Among them some authors who were totally new to me like Abbie Roads or Sara Humphreys or B. A. Paris.

My list shows them in randomly order which I wrote down as they came into my mind.  It has been a really great year in reading books and I am already looking forward to the new books that the one or the other author will have coming out in 2017.

Opal by Jennifer L. Armentrout

This series is such a blast, that I had to read the third book right after I had finished the second. Good, I didn´t read it overnight, as I had the other two, but this was kind of different. Yes, I devoured it as well, but I also needed to take my time with it –so many beautiful and surprising things happened.

No one is like Daemon Black. When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn´t fooling around. Doubting him isn´t something I´ll do again, and now that we´ve made it through the rough patches, well … There´s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on. But even he can´t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love. After everything, I´m no longer the same Katy. I´m different … And I´m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more realize there is no end to what I´m capable. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won´t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever. Together we´re stronger… and they know it.

My Review

And one thing is for sure: Blake YOU ARE SO DEAD! Yes, that figure cost me some nerves and I am not at all happy with what he did.

Follow Friday #10 – Despised Genres

Friday, January 27, 2017
This is a Friday meme now hosted by Patricia of FiktiveWelten. Every week she asks a question that you can answer. Everyone who would like to participate, just answer her question, link to her blog and write a comment under her post to let the others know that you are participating. The entire rules you can find here.

I haven´t done this in a while, since not every question was one I had an answer for. And for some questions, I had already planned my own post.

But this week I found something I was typing spontaneously and so here is what I have to say about the despised genres.

I actually have only one. Others I read only occasionally.

Truthwitch by Susan Dennard

Good, the cover of the German edition is not at all to compare with the one of the original book. But I can live with it, as long as I had the story itself to read. And I have to say, the fantasy is quite intriguing. And if you like a very detailed writing style and a bit of a strange language, then this book is something you should definitely read.

In the Witchlands, there are almost as many types of magic as there are ways to get in trouble –as two desperate young women know all too well. Safiya is a Truthwitch, able to discern truth from lie. It´s a powerful magic that many would kill to have on their side, especially amongst the nobility to which Safi was born. So Safi must keep her gift hidden, lest she be used as a pawn in the struggle between empires. Iseult, a Threadwitch, can see the invisible ties that bind and entangle the lives around her – but she cannot see the bonds that touch her own heart. Her unlikely friendship with Safi has taken her from life as an outcast into one of reckless adventure, where she is a cool, wary balance to Safiya´s hotheaded impulsiveness. Safiya and Iseult just want to be free to live their own lives, but war is coming to the Witchlands. With the help of the cunning Prince Merik (a Windwitch and privateer) and the hindrance of a Bloodwitch bent on revenge, the friends must fight emperors, princes, and mercenaries alike, who will stop at nothing to get their hands on a Truthwitch.

My Review

When I started reading it, I was actually pretty surprised. The story wasn´t at all what I had expected and the style of the author was completely new to me.

Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout

I am running out of stars here! After I was so thrilled when I had finished the first book, I had to read the second one right away – and now I am out of words. Well, kind of. This was sooooooo amazing, so threatening and so touching – all at the same time.

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks ... Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon´s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I´ve sworn him off, even though he´s running more hot than cold these days. But we´ve got bigger problems. Something worse than the Arum has come to town … The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we´re linked, I´m a goner. So is he. And there´s this new boy in school who´s got a secret of his own. He knows what happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that´s possible. Against all common sense, I´m falling for Daemon. Hard. But then everything changes … I´ve seen someone who shouldn´t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he´s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them – from me? No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies …

My Review

I can´t even remember when I read a series the last time in one single swoop within days. The first was an overnight read and the second one kind of too.

Well, admittedly, I haven´t read the second book of this great new series by J.R. Ward - The Angels´ Share - yet, but it is laying on my TBR pile and only waiting for me :-)

Perfect by Cecelia Ahern

The cover of the German edition looks so beautiful, that I just couldn´t resist. Usually, I am not a huge Cecelia Ahern fan, but this duology made me rethink. Now I am in love with her, at least when it comes to the author and writing children´s books or young adult novels.

Celestine North lives in a society that demands perfection. After she was branded Flawed by a morality court, Celestine´s life has completely fractured all her freedoms gone. Since Judge Crevan has declared her the number one threat to the public, she has been a ghost, on the run with the complicated, powerfully attractive Carrick, the only person she can trust. But Celestine has a secret one that could bring the entire Flawed system to the ground. Judge Crevan is gaining the upper hand, and time is running out for Celestine. With tensions building, Celestine must make a choice: save only herself, or risk her life to save all the Flawed. And, most important of all, can she prove that to be human in itself is to be Flawed?

My Review

The first book Flawed was already not only a page turner but also a very emotional and stirring read.

Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

I don´t know why I haven´t shown any interest in this series before. Maybe because this is one of the books the world went crazy about when it came out some years ago. Maybe it was the cover design (which isn´t really my thing) that kept me from reading it or that I had other books to read on my list and no time to discover something new.

Starting over sucks. When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I´d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring … until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up. And then he opened his mouth. Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something unexpected happens. The hot alien living next door marks me. You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon´s touch has lit me up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I´m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades. If I don´t kill him first, that is.

My Review

Now after I´ve read it I can say that I am very happy about it. It turned out that this story is a very promising one and that the author uses a writing style I am not used to.

Rebel Of The Sands by Alwyn Hamilton

This is a novel where I couldn´t see much in the original cover at first. I read the summary of it, thought that sounds interesting, but it only got my real attention when I saw the cover of the German edition for the very first time. From that moment on I knew I had to read it. And it proofs again: I am a cover girl *smile*

Mortals rule the desert nation of Miraji, but mythical beasts still roam the wild and remote areas, and rumor has it that somewhere, djinn still perform their magic. For humans, it´s an unforgiving place, especially if you´re poor, orphaned, or female. Amani Al´Hiza is all three. She´s a gifted gunslinger with perfect aim, but she can´t shoot her way out of Dustwalk, the back-country town where she´s destined to wind up wed or dead. Then she meets Jin, a rakish foreigner, in a shooting contest, and sees him as the perfect escape route. But though she´s spent years dreaming of leaving Dustwalk, she never imagined she´d gallop away on mythical horse – or that it would take a foreign fugitive to show her the heart of the desert she thought she knew.

My Review

If you like fantasy combined with a hint of the orient, some far away legends and a young woman who has a great ability to show the unthinkable, then you will find in this book a very entertaining story.

On an icy winter morning, the pediatrician and marathon runner Emory Charbonneau disappears while running on a mountain road without a trace. By the time her husband Jeff reports her missing, the trail has grown cold. While police suspect Jeff of “instant divorce”, Emory regains consciousness and finds herself the captive of a mysterious man. She tries everything to escape, but must quickly realize that the real threat to her life does not come from her kidnapper. And although she is still afraid of him, there are also sparkles of passion between the two.

My Review

The book was published in the US with the title Mean Streak and though I don´t understand why they had to call it in Germany Sanfte Rache, I had great pleasure reading it.

2017 kind of just started and I thought I continue to do this list of upcoming new releases on a monthly basis. Most of the books I am displaying here are books I am looking very much forward to their release day.

Some of them I already pre-ordered, others I started a request for and some I already have in my book- shelves since the month of January is by now a few days old.

It can be that you will see some titles in my list that are already being published abroad but will hit the German bookstores only by now; or the other way around.

I was a participant in a yearlong challenge at a German reading forum and for December 2016 they had offered some novels including this coloring book. And since I already owned and had read the other books, I decided to try for Johanna´s Christmas coloring book – and got lucky!

2016 New Release Challenge – Wrap-Up

Sunday, January 01, 2017
Since I am up very early – way too early for New Years Day for my taste (aren´t we supposed to sleep in after a night of celebrating and saying goodbye to the old and hello to the New Year?)! Guess, my head thinks different.

Okay, after I spend yesterday over my reading list and went over all the data, I can say that I read, reviewed and posted here fifty-three (in numbers 53) reviews for this challenge. Some of them are German new releases, which I told so in a note right underneath those reviews, others were original new releases that came out in the US/UK.
